Commonly known as the ‘Game of Kings,’ chess is much more than a board game. It challenges students to think strategically, plan ahead, solve problems, and remain calm under pressure. It also teaches valuable life skills such as resilience, patience, sportsmanship, and learning to both win and lose with grace.

This year, our Secondary students represented the School at the CSEN Chess Tournament, held at the Chadstone Bowls Club on Tuesday, 28th of April. A total of 98 students from across nine schools competed, with each player taking part in seven matches throughout the day. Our team approached every game with enthusiasm, determination, and a positive attitude, finishing ninth overall after a day of closely contested matches. Congratulations to Waverley Christian College (Wantirna), who were once again crowned tournament champions.

We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented the School, demonstrating perseverance, focus, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition. A special congratulations goes to our two highest-performing players, Riley (Year 11) and Elroy (Year 10), for their outstanding performances.

We also commend our three Year 7 students—Indiana, Dominic, and Elliot — who embraced the challenge of competing against much older and more experienced students, including VCE competitors. Their courage and determination were rewarded with three wins each, making for an impressive tournament debut.
