Primary Learning Areas

  • Each day begins with devotions for Prep to Year 6, focusing on connection with each other, God, and our values.
  • Teachers are the first point of contact for student wellbeing.
  • Clear behavioural expectations and daily planning provide students with a sense of security.
  • The school fosters a restorative and peacewise community. The ‘Peacewise’ curriculum is taught school-wide, promoting Christian values, positive relationships, and conflict resolution.
  • Buddy programs connect year levels: Prep–Y4, Y1–Y5, Y2–Y6, Kinder–Y3.
  • Students can participate in various connection activities:

  • Preps begin their school journey with Wednesdays off for PTI sessions and teacher-parent connection.

  • Maths is taught using hands-on activities and the Oxford Maths Curriculum.
  • ACARA curriculum frames our lessons for Preps to explore themselves, their family, and community.
  • Excursions include a farm visit and a walking tour of Belgrave South.
  • Celebrations include the 100th Day of School, Pyjama day, a ‘Stay Late’ experience and much much more.
  • Learning focuses on relationships and discovering the world.
  • Academic progress is supported with sequential, explicit, and needs-based instruction.
  • Reading and Writing continue with a focus on phonics and the Science of Reading.
  • Writing is developed using The Writing Revolution and applied across subjects.
  • Students begin to grow in independence and participate in a ‘Stay Late’ experience and other incursion and excursion opportunities.
  • English and Math skills continue to develop through explicit teaching.
  • Literature is explored for rich language content:
    • Year 3 studies Wonka and chocolate-themed texts.
    • Year 4 explores The Highland Falcon Thief, and themes of the rails and mystery solving.
  • Chromebooks are introduced with guided development of practical tech skills.
  • Students attend their first overnight camp, combining character building with experience.

Student Voice and Leadership

  • Year 5 students can join the Micah Team to mentor younger peers during play.
  • Year 6 students can become Captains, Vice Captains, or House Captains.

 

Curriculum

  • ACARA curriculum deepens skills in English, Maths, writing, reading, and problem-solving.
  • Year 5 students study Australia’s Gold Rush, with a visit to Sovereign Hill.
  • Year 6 explores Asian Pacific neighbours and their cultural contributions.

 

Graduation & Transition to Year 7

  • Year 6 ends with a celebration of learning, character, and growth.
  • Transition to Year 7 is supported through:
    • Connections with Year 7 staff
    • Tours of the Secondary campus
    • Step-up Day
    • Hands-on science sessions each term in our secondary science labs
  • All 5 & 6 students attend a 2 night camp
  • All Primary School students explore the natural environment, rain or shine.
  • Topics include stewardship, plant and wildlife study, gardening, and food origins.
  • Activities are hands-on, encouraging investigation, experience, and tasting.
  • Gumboots and raincoats are essential!
  • Emphasis is placed on physical health, movement skills, stamina, and strategy.
  • PE activities promote muscle development and physical coordination.
  • Whole school events include:
    • Cross country
    • Swimming
    • Athletics
  • From Year 5, students participate in:
    • CSEN and SSV sporting networks with opportunities to represent the school statewide.
    • Rally days and competitive sports with local and Christian schools
  • Performing Arts includes music and drama for all students.
  • Year 6 students learn to play an instrument and perform in a full band.
  • Visual Arts exposes students to diverse tools and techniques, with outcomes in:
